Batista returns to action for WWE – 6/17 results from Portland, ME
Just got back from the SmackDown house show at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, ME. Arena was about 80% full.
Chimmel comes out and announces that Undertaker would not be appearing; however he does announce a main event of King Booker and Mark Henry vs. Rey Mysterio and BATISTA! Guess the big man is back on the road.
Lashley d. Finlay to retain the US title. William Regal interfering early and often. Finish came when Finlay attempted a chair shot only to get speared for the pin. Afterwards the midget came out and attacked both Regal and Lashley. Funny stuff.
Jillian d. Kristal. Not a bad divas match, as far as they go. Jillian hit a Samoan drop followed by a front handspring leg drop for the pin.
Sylvester Terkay (MMA veteran WWE signed recently) d. Gunner Scott. Terkay is a big dude, about 6’6”, 300 pounds. Good back and forth match. Finish came after Scott hit a sweet German suplex and went up top, but got crotched and then hit with a Muscle Buster for the win. Samoa Joe’s gonna kill him.
Tatanka d. MISTERRRRRR KENNEDY. Kennedy with some great hell mic work, running down Chimmel, a woman in the front row, and said he was glad to be back in Bangor (cough). OK match with Tatanka getting the pin after a somewhat botched sunset flip over the top.
Vito (w/dress) d. Funaki. Crowd was all over Vito. Funaki got in most of the offense, actually. Funaki went for the tornado DDT only to get shot off into a big right hand and then tapped to the standing hammerlock/head-up-the-dress thing we saw on Smackdown. Not a good match.
Paul London & Brian Kendrick d. Kid Kash & Jamie Noble to retain the WWE Tag Team titles. Match of the night by far, with all four working hard. Big pop when Kendrick took the hot tag. TV-quality finish. Noble goes for the Tiger Bomb but caught with a London enziguri. Kendrick goes for Sliced Bread#2, gets caught but floats over. Noble goes for a snap powerslam but gets caught with an Oklahoma roll for the three. Great match that went almost 20 minutes.
Intermission and T-shirts.
Great Khali d. Matt Hardy. Hardy is way over, and yet he’s getting squashed. Unreal. Finish comes after a chop and a chokeslam. Afterwards Daivari and Khali cut a promo targeting the Undertaker. Khali said something close to "Undertaker Rest in Peace".
Gregory Helms d. Super Crazy to retain the Cruiserwight title. Crazy is a favorite in Portland. Crazy hit a standing moonsault for two, then went for the brainbuster but got countered into the Nightmare on Helms Street for the pin. Good short match.
In the main event, Batista & Rey Mysterio d. King Booker & Mark Henry. Booker’s new entrance is boring as hell live. HUGE pop for Batista making his return to the road, as well as for Rey. Short match, ending with a 619/spinebuster/frog splash on Henry for the pin. Great stuff afterwards as Batista grabbed the World title and took a long look at it before handing it to Rey. Guess a match between the two is on the way. Afterwards, both celebrated and Eddie chants led to Eddie’s music playing.
Good show overall with a ton of matches. Afterwards Great Khali was seen getting into a car with Mark Henry and Finlay’s midget. Weirdest carpool ever.
