Batista sets the record straight

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA – The past two nights have been tough for Batista.

At New Year’s Revolution, the enforcer of Evolution was defeated by Randy Orton, and eliminated from the Elimination Chamber match, hence losing his shot at claiming the vacant prize. Making matters worse, was the fact that his ally, Triple H, couldn’t make the save. Monday night, Batista’s woes continued, as he fell prey to Orton once more, this time due to outside interference by the Cerebral Assassin. Again, Batista missed out on a chance to become the number one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship.

Now, with two highly contestable pinfalls to Orton behind him, Batista is not a happy man. Upon returning to the backstage area of the Office Depot Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the tattooed monster hesitantly answered a few questions for WWE.com.

WWE.com: What do you think of the footage Randy Orton played tonight on Raw?

Batista: I would say I was shocked more than anything, but it does leave a lot of suspicion in my mind.

WWE.com: After seeing it, do you think Triple H could have made the save?

Batista: You know I saw it, and I was shocked by the whole thing, but in order to truly answer that, I’d have to take a look at it again, and go over it more closely. I understand he was in the match – a brutal match – for 45 minutes at that point, and I can’t imagine the pain that he was feeling, so I can understand if he was too weak to get up – that’s one thing – but if he did see what was going on, had the opportunity to break it up, and didn’t, then that’s a whole other thing. So I’m just going to have to look at that tape again.

WWE.com: At one point HHH tried to hand you a chair to use against Orton. Why did you stop him from helping you finish off Randy to become the number-one contender?

Batista: Well, basically, I don’t need his help – plain and simple. I don’t need anybody’s help, especially not against Randy Orton.

WWE.com: How upset were you with the outcome of this match?

Batista: I’m very upset, but at the same time, I want to believe that he was trying to help me, and that he had my best interest in mind. But again, there are just a lot of things that I need to think about. Right now, I need to clear my head, and make a decision as to what to do.

WWE.com: Do you think two straight pinfalls to Randy Orton pushes you out of World Heavyweight Title contention?

Batista: I’m still right in the mix, and right now, I’m at the top of my game. So I don’t think what happened last night or tonight diminished my momentum one bit.
