 SmackDown Report 10/27/06

Before we get an intro or anything, Batista comes out and jumps a lot. Tonight, he’s teaming with John Cena to face King Booker and the Big Show. All three champions are going to be in that match, you know. Batista gets in the ring and grabs the mic. He tells us that he realized a lifelong dream when he won the World Title at Wrestlemania 21, but then had one of the saddest days of his life ten months ago when he was forced to give the title up due to injury. Hey, who wound up with the title after that, anyway? Whoever he was, I don’t think he’s around anymore. Since that time, Batista has made it his mission to reclaim HIS title, but one IRISH thorn in his side has prevented him from accomplishing that goal: Finlay. He says that Finlay loves to fight, but so does he, and he tells Finlay to get out to the ring so he can take the shillelagh and shove it up his…

UH OH, here comes ECW’s Paul Heyman with the Rent-A-Bashams! As we know, his name is Paul Heyman, and he represents ECW. He says that tonight’s main event is going to be the biggest match in the history of Friday Night Smackdown (probably in much the same sense that Kane’s one man victory in TLC was the greatest match in Raw history). He points out that Batista is the only non-champion in the match, but Batista doesn’t seem to get Heyman’s point. Heyman clarifies by telling him that he’s Batista and he should be the champion, and the fact that he’s not bothers Heyman, and it should bother Batista too because everything about him screams champion. He says that the reason Batista’s not champion is because Teddy Long’s been holding him back and the Smackdown fans don’t give a damn about him. However (get ready for this) Paul Heyman does care about him, and would cherish the opportunity to have a man like Batista in ECW where the fans would appreciate him. That didn’t work out very well for Batista last time they tried it as I recall.

Batista says it’s an interesting proposition and asks him for some time to think about it. Heyman is more than happy to give "Dave" as much time as he needs, but Batista makes up his mind very quickly. He shakes the broadly smiling Heyman’s hand, but then turns into Evil Dave, nailing Heyman and then beating up the Rent-A-Bashams. What does that say about the top face on the brand when he has to suckerpunch a non-wrestler? Absolutely deplorable. Big Show uses the opportunity to sneak in and attack Batista, but Batista spears him, then walks right into an attack by King Booker. John Cena runs in to make the save, and Cena and Batista clean house.

<…>Backstage, Batista and Cena talk over tonight’s main event. Cena says he has his back, but Batista calls him a wuss for being all buddy-buddy with him. Cena accuses him of sandbagging it since returning from injury, and says he’s perfectly willing to go out there by himself, but wants Batista to go to war with him against Booker and Big Show.<…>

Main Event: World Champion King Booker & ECW World Champion Big Show vs WWE Champion John Cena & Batista

Cena and Booker start, and Booker takes Cena to the corner, but Cena blocks a cheapshot and comes out fighting, gets a full body hiptoss and tags in Batista. Batista pounds on the King, but Booker gets a thumb to the eye and lays in on Batista in the corner. Batista gets whipped into the corner and comes out with a clothesline for 2. Tag back out to Cena, but Booker catches him with a boot on a backdrop attempt and hits a clothesline. Cena ducks a Harlem sidekick and comes back on Booker, whipping him hard into the corner and gets a vertical suplex for two. Tag back out to Batista and a double elbow followed by a double clothesline over the top rope as we go to…

Commercial Break: Yikes, looks like the New York Metro area is in for some pretty serious rain and wind over the next few hours. Good thing I finally replaced my windshield wipers last weekend. Strange, we usually only get this kind of weather on the weekend if I have to make an hours-long drive to and from an ROH show.

Back from commercial and Batista is still working Booker over, getting a vertical suplex for two. Tag back out to Cena, cross corner whip, but Booker catches him coming in with an elbow and tags in the Big Show. I forgot how huge the Big Show looks next to Cena. Cena tries to fight him, but a cheapshot from Booker on the outside allows Big Show to rip Cena’s head off with a clothesline. Headbutt and a big chop and Cena is hurting. Show with a vertical suplex to Cena and a tag out to King Booker. Booker with his kick combo for two. Booker draws Batista into the ring, and then completely renders the spot pointless by simply walking over and tagging in Big Show. Big Show walks across Cena’s chest and tags Booker back in, Cena ducks a clothesline attempt and hits a clothesline of his own. Booker has the ankle and pulls Cena back and draws Batista in with another cheapshot, and again passes up the "behind the ref’s back" opportunity by simply tossing Cena out of the ring where Big show nails him once and tosses him back in for two. Booker of all people should know how to work a tag match better than that. Cena and Booker go toe-to-toe, and Booker gets a clothesline and then catches Cena in a sleeperhold. Cena finally gets a belly-to-back suplex to get out, but as Booker tries to tag out, Big Show steps off the apron and appears to be throwing Booker to the wolves. While Booker has his back turned, Cena makes the hot tag and Batista rattles Booker with a pair of clotheslines, lands another clothesline and some shoulderblocks in the corner, and then a "running" powerslam. Big Show is just standing in the aisle watching as Batista hits a spinebuster, Cena gets the Five-Knuckle Shuffle (which Cole gleefully points out was originated on Smackdown), and Batista finishes with the sitout powerbomb for the win.

Winners: John Cena & Batista

Cena and Batista celebrate in the ring while Big Show stands in the aisle looking menacing as we wrap up for the week.
